I was in my third year of college when I found a tiny restaurant in Vimannagar. It made average-ish food, like any other tiny stall serving students. But the green Thai curry they had tasted homely. Granted, I had never had Thai curry at home, but in my imagination, if I had, it would look and taste like this one. It looked mustardy yellow, unlike the Photoshopped-looking-pastel-green one of the fancier restaurants. But most importantly, it was cheap. I could afford to order it every week. And I did. My sister and I shared it.

Then one day, when we were passing the restaurant we saw a ‘Pizza Express coming soon’ sign in front of it. I was stunned. I went home and called the guy who ran the place. I had his number because he took my orders. He confirmed that they had closed. I asked where he had relocated? Sure I would travel to any corner of Pune for my Thai curry. He said they would not be opening anywhere; they had run out of business. I could I cried. Would he call me if he ever opened the restaurant anywhere? I asked him. If that was not creepy enough, I went on a limb and asked if he will make the Thai curry for me at his home and deliver. He would not.

I may have creeped him out. But it was worth a shot.

Now that I have made green Thai curry at home, I can confirm that home Thai curry indeed tastes like my college Thai curry.
